IRISnet2
The Brussels-Capital Region has just taken a strategic turn in the development of its future telecom network.
In 2012 IRISnet2 will replace IRISnet1. IRISnet2 is the best guarantee to fail-safe further technological innovation. Its aim is to offer modern and powerful applications and services to local government bodies, education experts, citizens and coroprate players alike.
The Brussels Capital Region will have a 200 km-plus Next Generation Network (NGN), comprising 13 loops of 72 optical fibres by 2012. The NGN, which will have almost unlimited bandwidth, will be dedicated to data, fixed telephony and added value services. It will be managed by a cooperative with limited liability (SCRL) made up of the Brussels Capital Region, a private operational management partner and the Brussels institutions that will use the network. The private partner will be selected as part of an international public sector contract award which has been launched on 31 may 2011.
